I gave up alcohol and feel GREAT!

I am writing this on a Friday night inside of a Starbucks sipping on my Caramel Macchiato. Some of you are probably ALREADY thinking about how they could never give up alcohol. That you can never have fun again without it. That you do not see a point in giving it up. To be quite honest with you, I thought the same things until I had to give it up.

When I was diagnosed with Gastroparesis (you can read about that by clicking here) I had to make a huge lifestyle change. I knew if I continued to drink I would face difficulty with my stomach. So, I chose to stop. I really thought I would miss it and not be able to hold up. However, it has been such a refreshing period in my life. For some of you who are probably thinking they go out too much to ever stop. I used to be just like you, going out every weekend.

Alcohol at Bloke

Yup, that is me!

That girl in that photo never thought she was going to have to give up alcohol for even a week. I did it though and I wish I did it sooner. I am actually aware of all my actions and everything that happens around me at events. Though I do have my moments where I do miss drinking – especially a glass of wine, the pros outweigh the cons. It definitely started off by doing it for my health, but it ended up being a positive lifestyle change that has impacted me positively in other ways.

MY SKIN HAS BEEN FLAWLESS!

I gave up alcohol and my skin looks so much more clear! I have also cut down on dairy products which has also helped with my skin as well. Alcohol dehydrates your face and decreases the body’s level of Vitamin A; both of which have a negative impact on your skin’s health and appearance. I place a huge importance on my appearance especially maintaining my skin care routine. However, if your diet is not healthy, you can use all the skincare products at Sephora and still suffer from problem areas. Seeing the difference for my skin has kept me confident and content with my decision in not drinking.

I have higher energy levels without Alcohol!

Without alcohol, I have dealt with less unproductive days. I constantly feel like I can keep moving rather than having a long night out and waking up with no motivation to do anything. Being 22 years old and at the point in my life where I am figuring out my career and actually pursuing some of my goals; I NEED ENERGY! I need to be able to wake up at 6am to get ready for school. It is so important to me to not have a tired appearance as I just like to maintain a constantly professional/approachable look. I have way more energy to play with my nephew. My fitness schedule has been manageable and I have not been as unfaithful to it as when I was drinking.

I knew it was time to make a change…

My lifestyle change was influenced by my Gastroparesis diagnosis but it is here to stay because of how great I feel. This does not mean I would not have a glass of wine on occasions or when I am on vacation, I will not consume alcohol. It just means that I am not going to go out on random weekends and chant “One tequila, two tequila, three tequila, FLOOR!” Though my time with alcohol was fun, I am so happy I can appreciate every moment life gives me now.

If any of you want to cut down on alcohol or give it up in total, I totally recommend pushing yourself to do it. It will make you feel better INSTANTLY! It has been such a rewarding challenge for me. Eventually it does become easy and just feels like a routine. I can not be any more happier. Cutting down on alcohol has uplifted my mood and gave me less rough days.

In the end, all I need is my caffeine!
