Sometimes You Have To Tune Out The Opinion Of Others And Do What Is Best For Yourself

I am sure I do not have to tell you this and I am sure many of you know this. People love giving their opinions, regardless if it was wanted or not. Some of the times you may find that it even goes against what would be best for you. In some situations, you may feel pressured and choose to do what you may regret later on. I am here to tell you that it really is not worth it. If something does not feel right, do not do it. If you are tired, rest. It is okay to say no. There may be times people may guilt you to do something, do not feel the need to do it.

People Are Selfish, You Should Be Too Sometimes

There are times in life that you should be selfish. Others are selfish all the time. You should be too. This does not mean to be a terrible person and only think about yourself. However, there are moments in life you can be selfish and it is totally okay. This is something that was difficult for me to adapt to. I used to be a giver. Until I gave so much I started feeling empty. There comes a point where you start giving even the parts that are meant for you to keep. Luckily, it is in those moments we normally get a nice wake up call to take what you gave back.

Time Is Money

The one thing you can give and never get back is your time. Time is priceless because of that. I can not reiterate enough how important it is to be selfish with your time. Prioritize important things. Limit the nonsense. I work full time and I am enrolled in full time courses. The one thing I do not have enough of right now is time. So you can assume the first thing I am going to be selfish about is time.

I spend 9 hours everyday at work, an extra 4 hours commuting, about 2 hours studying, and I still try to squeeze in a workout for an hour. That’s a total of 16 hours of my day gone to my priorities. That gives me another 8 hours to squeeze in dinner, a shower and sleep. To be quite honest, sleep kind of gets put as a final priority. That is something I am trying to work on.

Point being – be selfish with your time. You don’t need to socialize all the time outside of work if you just don’t have time. There is no requirement to attend every event you are invited to. You don’t have to go for dinner and drinks every time you are invited.

The Best Part…

You do NOT have to explain yourself to anyone! So tune everyone’s thoughts out when it comes to what is best for you. Put your goals and ambitions first. Prioritize the important stuff like work, school, family and your closest friends. Have a happy balance and never push yourself to do things that may result in regretting them later. It is so important to do what is best for you. There have been so many occasions where my friends will invite me for drinks and I know my body is screaming to rest. The old me would have never rested. The new Elda is selfish with her time and is in tune with her body.

So be selfish, be mindful and be in tune with what your mind/body need. I can assure you that the fun will always be there.
