So you recently graduated from post-secondary? You are about to graduate college? Like most people…you have NO idea what to do next? Here are some creative ideas for you to look at to make your next journey a little more interesting!!!
Before I begin to say anything else, please follow my Instagram page by clicking HERE.
A Job in your field!
This is the most generic answer in my list and I promise you my ideas get a lot more interesting. However, if you can get a job straight out of school and want to be boring like me, then do it! It is never too soon or too late to start advancing in your career. Take advantage of any opportunity you are given. You will not regret starting sooner rather than later!
A fun summer job!
Want to be creative but still be making that cash flow? Why not get a fun summer job? Apply to be a lifeguard at a local beach. OR apply for a fun bar-tending position at a cool patio in your area. On top of my actual career, I also am a server at this cute little restaurant on the water in my city! It definitely makes my days a lot brighter in the summertime. If you are in the Hamilton area, check out Baranga’s on the Beach on Van Wagners Blvd!
Go Abroad for fun!
Now obviously not many can afford this option but if you can, do it!!!! I wish I could have done it so if you can, do it! And if you do it…send me photos so I can live vicariously through you!!! There are no better lessons learned than the ones you learn when you are in a different country. Go somewhere where no one know who you are and what you do. Learn the recipes of the people, and as the famous quote says, “when in Rome, do as the Romans do!”
Go on a mission in a developing country!
If you wanna feel good, visit a developing country and do something with positive impact. This will make you feel great but also open your eyes to what some people face in their day to day lives. It is important to understand that not everyone is as fortunate as those in westernized countries. I would research where you are going first and see what they run low on/what they need the most of. You can bring some of those supplies with you as a gift/token of appreciation. Any little bit helps and is appreciated. I recently have started to visit a place in need everywhere I go. Even in Los Angeles, going to skid row and visiting a shelter is HUGE. I feel lucky for the life I was given so it is important for me to give back as much as I can.
You do not even need to leave your city to go somewhere where there are people in need. Every single city has a shelter, or different organizations that may better fit your beliefs. Local churches usually run little events to help people out, so I always recommend those! Visit Volunteer Toronto for some ideas on where to volunteer in the city. If you are not from Toronto, every single city has their own volunteer page normally so I recommend checking your city’s page out.
Join a club!
Nothing is better than meeting new people who like things that are similar to you. If you like reading, join a book club. There are also art clubs around the major cities you can join as well. I have always wanted to join a pottery class but always make excuses! You get to network with different people and you never know who you will meet. There is a club for everyone so I do recommend doing your research and getting on that!
Get into that sport/fitness class you have been talking about!
Everyone dreams about that spin class you have all the energy in the world at. Or what about that shot you could have been making playing basketball? This is your chance! Join a recreational sport OR join a local fitness class! There are SO many great ones. I attend classes at Goodlife Fitness! There are so many options I get with my membership, it is fantastic! It keeps me occupied! Plus you will never feel terrible for wasting your time being active. 2018 is the year of getting healthy, soooooo do it!
Go patio hopping!
The weather is beautiful and the sun is shining bright for you to come out and play. There are so many awesome restaurants nowadays with great patios. If you are around the Toronto area, you know you have SO many options! Take a friend and go patio hopping. Get one drink at each patio and compare your view. For all you basics in Toronto, we all know you will be stuck at the Porch this summer. However, for all you adventurous residents, go discover different patios and then comment below which one is your favorite!!
Go to a pool bar!
Most major cities have these nowadays since they are trying to bring a touch of Vegas into your life. In Toronto, we have a pool bar called Cabana, as well as Lavelle. Both are great options for this area! Research your cities poolbar options and pretend you are in Vegas for the day soon! It totally is worth it because you can wear your favorite bathing suit with some body chains and have some fun in the sun! You should be living your best life since you are a recent graduate from college!!
Find your favorite ice cream shop and over indulge.
I do not know about you but I am OBSESSED with ice cream!!!! I always try to discover new ice cream places in the city all the time. There are always so many options. As soon as someone says gelato, I will always be there. It is the most amazing thing ever. My favorite in Toronto is Sweet Jesus. I know that is super basic of me to say since everyone loves that place. But it is so delicious! Especially their s’mores ice cream cones. Their presentation is impeccable and I judge places a lot on presentation!
So those are your 10 things to do after you graduate college! There are so many other options you can choose, but these are a start!
